Independent vehicle standards

VCA Type Approval, explained simply

The CamperKing T7 Freedom available through Expedition Campers is produced under CamperKing’s GB Whole Vehicle Type Approval. This independently assessed framework covers the approved vehicle design and the consistency of the production process—not just a one-off inspection.

Approval and registration details are vehicle-specific. We’ll be happy to show you the relevant documentation for any campervan you are considering.

What does Type Approval mean?

VCA Type Approval is administered by the UK Vehicle Certification Agency. It confirms that an approved vehicle type and its production controls meet the applicable standards for areas such as construction, safety and environmental compliance.

How is it different from IVA?

Individual Vehicle Approval assesses a particular vehicle. Whole Vehicle Type Approval applies to an approved vehicle type and includes controls intended to keep production consistent. The right route depends on the vehicle and how it was built.

What should I check before buying?

Ask to see the approval information and the vehicle’s V5C, and check that its description and classification match the campervan being offered. Also confirm insurance requirements directly with your chosen insurer.
